In the days of my youth, I was the youngest among my brothers and served my father’s flock.
At this time, I met a lion and a wolf, and I defeated and broke them, tearing them in two.
I made musical instruments with my hands and made a harp with my fingers.
I asked to know my Lord, and Mar-Yah* revealed himself to me as my God.
His angel came, took me from my father’s flock, and anointed me with holy oil.
Despite the height and beauty of my brothers, Mar-Yah found no interest in them.
I confronted a Philistine who cursed me in his anger.
Even so, I prevailed over him and took his sword, and cut off his head and removed the disgrace of the Israelites.
